Dorothy Cooper ''Dot'' Ussery, 76, of Roanoke Rapids died Friday, April 02, 2010.
Dot was born on January 25, 1934, and was a native of Halifax County. She was the daughter of the late William Thaniel Cooper and Reva Killebrew Cooper. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church and one of the original members of the Gospelaires.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Ward ''Joe'' Ussery; her sister, Margie Cooper; her brother, Roy Cooper, and her granddaughter, Lynsie Ussery.
Dot is survived by her son, Joseph Ward ''Joey'' Ussery, Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of Littleton; three daughters, Susan U. Gazaway and her husband, Eddie, of Wake Forest, Phyllis Jane Ussery and Louie Arais of Raleigh, and Joni U. Wright and her husband, David, of Roanoke Rapids; six grandchildren, Bobbie Jo Sheppard, Charles Sewell, Brian Sewell and his wife, Christina, Caylie Ussery, Seth Wright, and Natalee Wright; six great grandchildren, Natalie France, Holly France, Ben France, Lance Sewell, Kaylee Sewell, and Brooklyn Byars; her sister, Mary Lee Hobbs and her husband, Floyd, of Skippers, VA; two brothers, Arnold Cooper and his wife, Bessie, of Roanoke Rapids and Norman Cooper and his wife, Margaret, of Huntersville, NC.
Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Sunday, April 4, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. and other times at the home, 660 Williams St., Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Martin and Rev. John Alford officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1405 Bolling Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870. The family would like to give a special thank you to Community Home Care & Hospice for their loving and compassionate care for Dot during her illness.
